Three identical rectangles are put together to form rectangle , as shown in the figure below. Given that the length of the shorter side of each of the smaller rectangles is feet, what is the area in square feet of rectangle

Solution:
The length of side is feet because it is the sum of the lengths of the shorter sides of two of the small rectangles. It follows that the small rectangles are feet by feet. Therefore, rectangle is feet by feet with an area of square feet.
